Day Tour: Siby and Bamako

Estimated to be the fastest-growing city in Africa and the sixth-fastest in the world, Bamako sprawls across flat plains straddling the Niger River. Aside from being a major port, the city is also a melting pot of culture, boasting several museums, botanical gardens, and impressive places of worship.

Itinerary

With so much to see and so little time, the best way to see the best sites is by a guided day tour on a private, air-conditioned car with your Bamako City Tour.

We will pick you up at your hotel and Bamako and will start our day tour by driving to Siby, a rural village located about 50 km south of Bamako, and the gateway to the Manding Mountains. Siby is known for its dramatic natural rock formations, especially the iconic Arch of Kamandjan (or Kadjan). We will go on a short hike through the hills with stunning views over the area. Passing by the village of Siby we'll also get a look into the daily rural life and see the colorful painted houses.

We will then returen to Bamako to see the National Museum of Mali, which offers ethnographic exhibits on the locals with displays on masks, textiles, statues, and other contemporary art forms as well as the Mali National Park which comprises the botanical garden and zoo. We will also have a stop at the Cathedral of Bamako which served as the city's only Catholic place of worship until 1957, and of course Bamako Grand Mosque.

Also on the menu is the Monument of Independence, complete with a minaret on top, the BCEAO Tower or Africa Tower, which, at 20 stories and 80m (262ft) high, is the tallest building in Mali. If time permits, we'll also visit a local market and some of the locals' favorite places of hangout.

At the end of your tour we will drop you off at your hotel in Bamako.

“We consider ourselves extremely fortunate to have been in such capable hands for the 10 days – we have travelled extensively and done many private tours at exotic destinations, but none have matched the impeccability of this particular tour. I want to congratulate Karen for her professionalism in all her dealings with us and for Ogomono who was a standout in his own right. The memories of Mali and the fun time we had will always be treasured thanks to Ogomono”
