Dogon Country UNESCO World Heritage Site Hiking Tour from Mopti

Renowned for its secluded villages perched on cliffs that are up to 500m tall, Dogon Country, a south-central region of Mali, is said to be the jewel of West Africa. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is designated as such for its natural beauty and cultural significance.

What to Expect

On this tour from Mopti, you'll spend the day hiking to various interesting villages via Bandiagara, the portal to Dogon Country, and its main commercial center. Within the village, you'll find the magnificent Palace of Aguibou Tall, a large toguna or a traditional circular hut made from clay and bamboo or wood, with a thatched roof, and a traditional medicinal center with botanical gardens. You will also visit Dourou, a village on the top of the Southern Plateau, and a good place to buy indigo fabrics on the market day.

After half a day of hiking, take a break and enjoy a scrumptious picnic lunch. Then, continue your hike to your final village visit before returning to Mopti in the late afternoon.

Reseñas

“We consider ourselves extremely fortunate to have been in such capable hands for the 10 days – we have travelled extensively and done many private tours at exotic destinations, but none have matched the impeccability of this particular tour. I want to congratulate Karen for her professionalism in all her dealings with us and for Ogomono who was a standout in his own right. The memories of Mali and the fun time we had will always be treasured thanks to Ogomono”
