Dogon Country UNESCO World Heritage Site Hiking Tour from Mopti

Renowned for its secluded villages perched on cliffs that are up to 500m tall, Dogon Country, a south-central region of Mali, is said to be the jewel of West Africa. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is designated as such for its natural beauty and cultural significance.

What to Expect

On this tour from Mopti, you'll spend the day hiking to various interesting villages via Bandiagara, the portal to Dogon Country, and its main commercial center. Within the village, you'll find the magnificent Palace of Aguibou Tall, a large toguna or a traditional circular hut made from clay and bamboo or wood, with a thatched roof, and a traditional medicinal center with botanical gardens. You will also visit Dourou, a village on the top of the Southern Plateau, and a good place to buy indigo fabrics on the market day.

After half a day of hiking, take a break and enjoy a scrumptious picnic lunch. Then, continue your hike to your final village visit before returning to Mopti in the late afternoon.

Recenzii

“Very flexible and attentive to my specific itinerary requests and budgetary needs. Karen was great and Ogo was a total gem. Her knowledge, cheer, work ethic and sensitivity (when to let the group chill out vs. when to capture a teachable moment) was outstanding. He became a real friend to many in our group and they still remain in contact via email two years later.”
